CanEggs Condo Product Photography Photo Shoot

On Saturday, 09 June 2018 CanEggs scheduled a lifestyle products photo shoot on the top floor of a luxury condominium at 38 Joe Shuster Way that just happened to have a world class view of a historic rugby game happening twenty floors below and across the street in Lamport Stadium. The Toronto Wolfpack was down there surrounded by seven thousand fans in a quest to best the London Broncos. Our makeup artists and models enjoyed the show, but honestly they were busy inside our condo rental most of the afternoon trying-out CanEggs' brand Egg White Powder in a quest to make healthy, protein rich smoothies and beauty secrets.

Composing Protein Infused Fruit Smoothies

The beverage aisle in your local market is today filled with meal replacement liquids that promise protein in the mix.  Athletes building muscle mass seek protein in every form, and so with that in mind we decided to gather our own creative people together and create and share some recipes ourselves.

We put two dozen different healthy ingredients on the table, along with skim milk powder, yogurt and chocolate powder. We sourced a cornucopia of fruit and natural fruit juice blends.  We made sure there were dozens of different combinations, even more with soya milks, citrus blends and carrot juice. There was ice cream, maple syrup and honey for sweetening.  Everything a smoothie maker could ever desire was laid out on the table along with a 2kg bag of egg white powder and a 35gm scoop.

Our cooks got creative with mangoes, bananas, kiwis, and watermelons. Some of the best recipes that were recorded that day celebrated the classics; peach + mango, banana + strawberry, and pineapple plus coconut milk were among the best combinations.  One chef brought a 2 litre container of black cherry juice and this made a terrifically tangy black cherry flavoured smoothie.

Black Cherry, Banana Fruit Smoothie (with CanEggs Egg White Powder),

  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups of black cherry juice
  • 1 cup milk.
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt.
  • 35 grams (one scoop) of CanEggs Egg White Powder
  • 2 tablespoons honey

This makes about eight cups of a delicious frothy pink coloured cherry flavoured liquid smoothie.

Toronto Makeup Artist, Jennifer Turner from Modern Makeup

For many centuries, chicken egg whites have been touted as a great way to tighten skin pores, giving human skin an overall smoother, brighter appearance.  There are several cosmetic beauty products made with egg whites, and all of these are probably formulated using spray-dried egg white powder which allows more precise measurements and quality control.

We invited artist Jennifer Turner from Modern Makeup in Toronto to come help us concoct beauty masks and also to help us make smoothies which we enjoyed that afternoon as refreshing beverages.

Modern Makeup led the Egg & Honey Beauty Mask testing initiative that followed the smoothie sessions. Jenn brought her own ideas about adding avocados and essential oils to the face mask mix. It was our objective to find recipes that can help and not hinder egg whites' natural ability to both clean and restore skin tissue.  Because egg whites contain astringent properties our powder can be added to beauty masks to clean out oily pores on the face and scalp. As the afternoon progressed we tried many different formulations to boost egg whites' natural skin cleaning and buffing power.

Modern Makeup's Egg White Powder Face Mask – the recipe makes enough for two masks.

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 75 grams (2 scoops) of CanEgg's powdered egg whites
  • 1/2  ripe avocado
  • 1 peeled kiwi
  • 1.5 tbsp of unpasteurized local honey
  • 2 drops of X essential oil

Jenn mixed the mass together in the blender, but then added more egg white powder to thicken up the mixture just before applying it to the model's faces.

Egg whites, a beauty super tool, could also bring disaster if used incorrectly.

WORST CASE SCENARIO:  The application of a raw egg white 'mask' can clog a person's skin pores and increase the possibility of acne breakouts for young people. Other negative side effects for using fresh egg whites versus powdered eggs include the spread of bacteria on the skin, as raw egg whites contain salmonella, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.

BEST CASE SCENARIO:  Science validates the age-old beauty secret claim published in medical journals and dermatological reviews all over the globe, that protein molecules in egg whites do indeed help reduce wrinkles and acne on the surface and inside human skin, over time.

Useful Egg-Based Skin Treatments in Daily Beauty Rituals

Asian skin model tries egg white powder face mask for beautyThe take-away is that using egg white powder skin salves and beauty masks is useful for your skin; we recommend whipping the egg white powder until it is foamy, and then applying a thin film under the eyes to firm eye bags and wrinkles and give yourself a little 'eye lift' as part of a daily beauty ritual.

Jen reminds us that if you apply makeup over the film once it has dried, then it will last a few hours.

Egg white powder can be liquefied and used as a base for other masks, salves and treatments; other ingredients such as bananas, oatmeal, honey can be added to improve the mixture's texture or, if desired, to temporarily tighten and dry oily skin. The model above is age 15 and suffers from mild skin acne. Egg white, or albumen, is a liquid consisting of about 15 percent protein and 85 percent water in its natural state.

When beauticians apply albumen to a human face, the water evaporates moisture away and the proteins change their texture, forming a film. This makes skin feel tight.  Beauticians describe it "like putting a coat of paint on your face, and letting it dry."  The tightening sensation is a false signal that leads users to believe that the egg mask is instantly firming their skin.  It doesn't happen this way. Without any additional ingredients, basic egg white powder salves can have a drying effect on skin that may make it feel tighter, but the real benefits are more long term.  Adding egg white powder to your skin regime will result in cleaner, healthier skin that naturally looks better.
